Chelsea Fans Eagerly Await January Signings as Loan Moves Take Center Stage
In a twist of irony, Chelsea’s sister club, on the other hand, is making moves. David Ornstein has just confirmed that Strasbourg have agreed to sign Samuel Amo-Ameyaw from Southampton.
The 18-year-old winger has agreed personal terms to move before the deadline and will join on loan with an obligation to buy for €7 million in the summer, at which point he will sign a long-term deal. His medical has been completed, and BlueCo is now ready to complete what Ornstein calls an “impressive addition.”
Emerging English Talent Attracting Attention
Amo-Ameyaw, a native Londoner, started his career in the Tottenham academy before moving to Southampton in 2022 for an easier pathway to first-team action. He has since made 12 first-team appearances for the Saints, even scoring a League Cup goal earlier this season.
The young winger has also earned caps for England from the U16 to U19 levels, where he plays alongside some emerging Premier League stars like Mikey Moore and Tyler Dibling.
While it’s unclear whether the plan is to eventually bring Amo-Ameyaw to Chelsea, it’s certainly a possibility if he reaches his potential as a top player. In the short term, Strasbourg is building an interesting team with a lot of young talent, and the backing from BlueCo is allowing them to make impressive moves like this, which helps them compete with other clubs trying a similar model.
Chelsea fans will be keeping a close eye on Amo-Ameyaw’s progress this season and beyond, as the club looks to bolster its squad and secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
